Είναι ουσιαστικά το συνοδευτικό βιβλίο για το ημερολόγιο: A Hangman's Diary.
Εδώ αφηγείται την ζωή του εν λόγω δήμιου (τα καθήκοντα του βέβαια ήταν περισσότερο του δεσμοφύλακα-βασανιστή-ομολογητή και...ιατρού).
Με περιγραφή της γενικότερης κατάστασης, τις λεπτομέρειες που δίνουν νόημα σε διάφορα εδάφια και γενικά μέσω του ημερολογίου δένει μια ιστορία από την γέννηση έως τον θάνατο του συγκεκριμένου και πως άλλαξε το επάγγελμα του τις δεκαετίες ζωής του.
Ένα γενικά εξαιρετικό βιβλίο, για ένα θέμα που δεν αναφέρεται συνήθως και όταν αυτό γίνεται είναι υπό τελείως αρνητική χροιά, ενώ ήταν ένα επάγγελμα που ήταν μέρος της επίσημης δικαστικής οδού, με τον εν λόγω να πληρώνεται από τους burgers ως "εργαλείο" του δικαστικού σώματος.
Όσον αφορά την προσωπική του ζωή, οι κάτοικοι της Νυρεμβέργης (και γενικά στα κρατίδια της Αγίας Ρ. Αυτοκρατορίας) τον συμπεριφερόταν ως παρία, αυτόν και την φαμίλια του.

Πολύ ενδιαφέρον βιβλίο και το προτείνω.
